When reflecting back on the year 2010, most people would probably state it was "turbulent" to say the least. And we all have various reasons for setting the score with the old year, economical, political or other reasons. For us here at Waterproof, "turbulent", is an understatement. 2010 was the year where we substituted our existing collection with the newly designed W-series. We totally changed our visual image, won three (3) international approved design awards and Patented an exceptional new Drysuit Concept, the D1 Hybrid. Indeed a mixture of ingredients to fill up more than one turbulent year. Wishing you and your family the best for the New Year to come.

At this year DEMA Show in Las Vegas, USA we will not only launch the first Insulated Constant Volume Dry Suit, the D1 HYBRID with Silicone Seals, but we will also present our full range of our brand new wetsuit and drysuite collections, as well as our new line of accessories.

Henrik Borg worked at Waterproof from 1987-1997. He then moved on to work for Swedish Divers where he designed and developed the Northland and Trilight suits for Aqualung. Since 2007 he has been working for Poseidon as Product and Sales Area Manager, where he has developed and designed the Flexisuit and Evolution amongst other products.
”It feels great to have Henrik back in the Waterproof family. During his period away from Waterproof Henrik has gained extensive international knowledge, it feels incredibly stimulating to be able to take advantage of our common experiences and work together to develop Waterproof products for the future”, says founder and Head Designer Göran Ehlmé.
“For me it feels like coming home. Not only did I work with Waterproof for 10 years, but I actually took my first diving certification at Göran and Björn Ehlmés diving center which back then that was located in Fiskebäckskil on the Swedish Westcoast.” tells Henrik and continues “I am excited to be back with the Waterproof team again.”

The jury's verdict reads:
”With one foot in the water and the other in the office, Waterproof has succeeded in creating an industry ”top-of-the-line-product”. Key words when creating the W1 wetsuit were organic, technical, floating lines and surface structure. The inspiration came from the sports, automotive and footwear industries. The result is a fantastically crafted product that makes both diving pros as well as land-lovers take an extra deep breath."
The Grand Award of Design highlights business successes that utilise integrated and consistent design. It is awarded to a Swedish company annually by Teknikföretagen, the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries in association with The Swedish Industrial Design Foundation, and The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design. The jury assesses the commercial success based on innovation, product significance, product customization, effectiveness, ergonomics and eco-requirements.

Besides our already presented new front zip wetsuit W1 and all accessories you can preview the coming W2 and the new sensational D1, Drysuit.

In September 2009 Waterproof moves in to a new factory building with three times the floor space in the town of Xiamen.
Göran Ehlmé, one of the original founders of Waterproof, and head of the R & D department is happy; “Finally we have reached the critical volume making this move profitable. To be forced to stretch the limits over a too long time always kills sufficiency. We have balanced over the production capacity edge the last two years, not really daring to do what we needed to do. Now we have room to grow and keep basic stock of items needed for a healthy flow in the production. Based on the huge interest from the professional and technical divers for our new Hybrid D1 drysuit we suddenly understand that we grossly underestimated the potential of this product. That makes the timing of this move even more perfect”
Facts on Xiamen "The Gate of the Grand Mansion". Xiamen is a coastal city in south-eastern Fujian Province, mainland China. It looks out to the Taiwan Straits. It covers an area of 1 565 km² with a total population of 2.5 million. It was recently named China's 2nd 'most suitable city for living'.
One of China’s original four special economic zones • Since 1981 Xiamen port ranks 8th among the top ports in China and 30th among the world’s top 100 ports • Xiamen is the world's largest supply base for raw tungsten materials • Xiamen is the world’s largest sunglasses manufacturing base, exporting 120 million each year • Xiamen is an important base in Fujian province for making medium and large-sized modern container vessels and yachts.

"We found out we would get a huge synergy effect by carrying two well established Brands, especially since no conflict of interest occurs between them. Waterproof also has hired more sales persons and this benefits both companies," says Alexander Fertig, General Manager, Waterproof Diving Gmbh in Viernheim, Germany. TUSA equipment is distributed via the TUSA European warehouse in Netherlands. “We at TUSA find this deal a perfect mach where we benefits from an experienced sales team, and can now concentrate on service and customer related issues” says Kenny Yokochi, Vice President of Tabata Europe Corporation.

Waterproof Diving Int. has after 15 years decided to change distributorship in Italy. “We have been happy with our former Distributor but after mutual understandings we decided it was time to break up the relationship in good standings”, says Björn Ehlmé General Manager for Waterproof.

W1 is the stunning Front Zip suit that got the Red Dot Award.
W2 still to be launched at the end of the year to supply the needs for next season.
D1, a new Drysuit concept, presented at the 2009 DEMA show.

W1 Lady Diving Suit from Waterproof Diving Int. AB in Sweden, is the first diving suit awarded the famous Red Dot Award, with the additional “best of the best” added design award. Waterproof from Sweden is now ranked among the top within the international design world, together with Prada, Apple, Nike and other top brands. A fantastic feeling to get an award considered to be the most prestigious in the world. And the same year Waterproof celebrates its 25 year anniversary as a company. This shows that our work with “gender specific design” have been appreciated, says Göran Ehlmé head of the design team at Waterproof.
The award states that the world leading design experts place Waterproof from Sweden at the same level as many of the most exclusive and famous Brands. Red Dot Award started in 1955 and have been presented in a yearly gala event in Germany. 1400 companies from 49 countries sent in 3231 items to the jury for examination. That show the broad base this award covers internationally.

"We are both happy and proud to have such a competent partner for this important market", says Christer Falkeborn, president of Waterproof Gear Inc. “TUSA has been working on diversifying and strengthening our product line for several years. Suits were one of the remaining keys to rounding out our offering. That opening has now been solidly filled by Waterproof and we are eager to bring this premium product to our market”, says Stephen Ashmore, President Tabata USA.

There is good synergy between Waterproof and Tabata (manufacturers of TUSA dive product) – both companies are manufacturers of over 25 years who take quality seriously and have their customer’s comfort as a top priority.
Both companies have full control over prodution from design to packaging. From experience, Waterproof understand neoprene and what is required to produce the optimal material for the job - from extreme cold of the Antarctic or warm waters of the Great Barrier Reef.
"We are thrilled by this and have seen a rapid growth already in our order stock," says Björn Ehlme, General Manager, Waterproof International. Sue Crowe, director at TABATA Australia confirms the successful introduction, "Shortly after the introduction we had stocking dealers covering most of Australia. Now closer to the season we have more in the pipeline. It takes time to cover such a vast landmass".
"Australian divers appreciate good quality and unique designs which, most importantly fit properly. We are thrilled to have such a partnership with Waterproof and look forward to growing the brand in Australasia", she said See more at www.waterproofwetsuits.com.au

"Finally Waterproof has a working concept for Norway customers with a stocking distributor. It is not so easy to fix the trade over the EU border with single Norwegian dealers. This will make the access to Waterproof equipment much easier", says Christer Falkeborn, Waterproof Diving International.

After a long time of testing in the Artic and Antarctic environments the new D1 Hybrid Drysuit has patented features and technical solutions AMIS (Active Mesh Inline System). After 25 years experience of building suits for the extremes Waterproof has dissected and analysed every known and experienced problem this special sector of Diving creates. The answer to many of those problems is the new patented material used inside the suit, the AMIS (Active Mesh Inline System).
In addition a new user friendly seal system for neck and wrists has been added, FISSS (User Frendly Interchangeable Silicone Seal System), that will change the standard for drysuit divers from leisure to professionals.
